Ecclesiastical, public, private: Various faces of glass art // English walking tour

2025. január 25. (11:00)

How many treasures of Miksa Róth's stunning mosaics and stained glass windows are scattered throughout the vibrant streets of Budapest? More than you would think, if you know where to look.

Miksa Róth is among the top masters of turn-of-the-century applied art, whose talent shaped Budapest into the enchanting city we love today. Although our memorial house exhibitions give a well-rounded understanding of Miksa Róth’s life’s work for our visitors, due to the very nature of his chosen genre only a fraction of his artworks are stored in the museum. During our January walking tour we will stop at buildings you too may have passed on your way to work several times. Thanks to its nation-wide reputation and the unprecedented construction boom of his time, Miksa Róth’s workshop fulfilled dozens of orders for both public and private buildings in the capital; Some artworks were placed on stylish facades above the streets of busy junctions, others are hidden in apartment buildings, to be enjoyed exclusively by the owners and tenants.

From Kálvin Square to the captivating Parisi Passage, our tour promises to reveal the artistic brilliance and hidden gems of Miksa Róth's mosaic and stained glass masterpieces that grace Budapest's buildings.
